Despite being geographically disadvantaged, many Australians have been able to find their way into the National Football League.
In recent years the influx of Aussies into the NFL has been steadily increasing, with the known stereotype being that we are taking punting opportunities away from our US counterparts and impacting even the best betting websites.
However, if it weren't for the efforts of Darren Bennet, the former dual Melbourne leading goalkicker, Australians may have never found a steady place in the league. Bennett was arguably the best punter of the '90s and a two-time All-Pro who stood out due to his willingness to physically engage with the opposition.
Years later, the likes of Mat McBriar, Ben Graham and Sav Rocca continued building on Bennett's legacy, collectively proving that being successful in the NFL was an achievable feat.
Today we have a host of high profile Australians' plying their trade in the US, with some even deviating from punting.
Who are the Aussies in the NFL now?
Jordan Berry (punter) - Minnesota Vikings
Berry has been in the league since 2015 and boasts a punting average of 44.7 yards, which is good for 32nd all-time.
Lac Edwards (punter) - Carolina Panthers
Edwards was drafted in 2016 during the seventh round by the New York Jets. He was the NFL punting yards leader in 2019 and averages 45.7 yards per attempt, which is 16th all-time.
Cameron Johnston (punter) - Houston Texans
Johnston began his career in Philidelphia as an undrafted free agent and averages a whopping 47 yards per punt, which places him at third all-time.
Mitch Wishnowsky (punter) - San Fransisco 49ers
Wishnowsky was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft after a stellar college career that included three first-team All Pac-12 selections and a Ray Guy Award.
Arryn Siposs (punter) - Philidelphia Eagles
Siposs began his career as an undrafted free agent, initially signing with the Detroit Lions practice squad before being released and re-signing multiple times until he made the Eagles his home in 2021. Siposs played 28 games for AFL club St Kilda between 2011-2015.
Michael Dickson (punter) - Seattle Seahawks
Dickson is arguably the best punter in the league and the best Australian punter of all time, after only three and half seasons of play. He is currently the league's equal leading punter in gross yards with an average of 47.6, tied with future hall-of-famer Shane Lechler. This is all in addition to Dickson being the most creative punter to ever step foot in the gridiron landscape.

Adam Gotsis (defensive-end) - Jacksonville Jaguars
Gotsis is the highest ever drafted Australian, landing at pick 63 overall in the 2016 draft. He has amassed 161 tackles, seven sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and 16 pass deflections during his six seasons.
Jordan Mailata (offensive-tackle) - Philidelphia Eagles
Mailata was taken during the seventh round of the 2018 NFL draft for the tremendous upside he offered to any team willing to develop a blindside protector. As he currently starts for the Eagles at left tackle, Mailata is primed to become the highest ever paid Australian in the NFL.
