Day one at the Australian Open kicked off on Monday with comfortable wins and some upsets as tennis finally took centre stage at Melbourne Park.

With day two looming, here's a look at some of the most interesting matches to catch on the first Tuesday of the tournament.

Nikoloz Basilashvili v Andy Murrayย

These two competitors have plenty of recent history against each other, their most recent match coming against one another. Murray bested his Georgian rival to claim the title at the Sydney International, winning the final 6-7, 7-6, 6-3. Despite being a three-time grand slam winner, Murray enters the Australian Open as a wildcard after years of disrupted play due to injury, unlike his opponent who has climbed to number 23 in the world. Murray looks to be in exceptional form so far this summer and will be keen to make a point to the rest of the field in the first round.

Sloane Stevens v Emma Raducanu

This meeting between two US Open Champions last up on Margaret Court Arena is sure to be something special. Raducanu had a dream 2021, making it to the fourth round at Wimbledon during her grand slam debut, before winning the US Open. Stevens, who won the title at Flushing Meadows in 2017, had a quieter 2021, finishing the year ranked 64th in the world. Stevens didn't appear at any lead up tournaments in Australia, while Raducanu failed to progress past the first round in Sydney, making this a seemingly very even playing field for the two.

Maxime Cressy v John Isnerย

Cressy has had a stellar start to the season, making the final in the lead up tournament in Melbourne, losing to Rafael Nadal in straight, but competitive, sets. Isner on the other hand has had mixed results, winning just one of this three singles matches at the ATP Cup in Sydney.ย While Isner's big serve isn't renowned for being the most interesting watch on the circuit, coming up against the in-form Cressy, who has a big serve of his own, the veteran will be forced to be at the top of his game. The two Americans have powerful games and will win or lose the match on their serves, though based on their history and talent, the match looks likely to head all the way to five sets. Should Cressy get the win over his compatriot, we could very well be seeing a new era of American men's tennis emerging this tournament.
