Carmelo Anthony's place with the struggling Houston Rockets has been cast in doubt following his sluggish start to the season.

Houston have denied the rumours they will waive the 10-time All Star forward, but according toย The Stein Line, Anthony has already been informed that his short stint with the team will soon be over.

Anthony is averaging just 13.4 points per game at 40% accuracy this season, in a campaign which has seen Houston rocket from the best offensive side in the league to the second worst in the span of just a few games.

Some may wonder if the 34-year old Anthony is posed to be the scapegoat for the Rockets' woeful beginning, but his performance has undeniably fallen short of his brilliant best.

Against Oklahoma City, Anthony missed 10 out of 11 shots, securing only two points in a 98-80 loss.

If the Rockets waive Anthony they will be obliged to pay out his $2.4 million veterans' contract, which has him locked to Houston until the end of the season.
