2022 T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament Sam Curran is the big name out of the 21 players who have listed their maximum reserve price of INR two crore ($362,296.30 AUD) for the 2023 IPL auction.
Australia has the biggest overseas representation, with 57 players registering.
991 players have registered for the auction, 72% of which are Indian, the rest being overseas players. 19 of the Indian players have appeared for India previously with the likes of Mayank Agarwal. For the first time, no Indian players are listed in the two-crore price band.
All-rounders are vital for the T20 format of the game with experienced IPL English duo Sam Curran and Ben Stokes and IPL newbie Cameron Green all likely to pocket big money at the auction.
Curran last featured for the Chennai Super Kings in 2021 and set them back 5.5 crore ($996,00 AUD approx.).
Stokes last featured in 2021 also, playing for the Rajasthan Royals who purchased Stokes for 12.5 crore ($2.262 million AUD approx.) in 2018, retaining his services for three years.
Aussie Cameron Green has yet to experience the IPL. But with his capability in the field in addition to his explosive batting and solid bowling, it will make him a huge asset for any team that will pay the big bucks.
Notable Australian omissions are the likes of yesterday's double-century heroes Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne and skipper Pat Cummins. The Aussie trio have all opted to focus on the Ashes and other tournament preparations.
All 21 players in the 2 crore band are international and not native to India. The list includes Australian players Nathan Coulter-Nile, Cameron Green, Travis Head, and Chris Lynn. Others include Tom Banton, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, Jamie Overton, Craig Overton, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Ben Stokes, Adam Milne, Jimmy Neesham, Kane Williamson, Rilee Rossouw, Rassie van der Dussen, Angelo Mathews, Nicholas Pooran, and Jason Holder.
The 1.5 crore band ($271,449.61 AUD) includes Aussies Sean Abbott, Riley Meredith, Jhye Richardson, and Adam Zampa. Alongside them is Shakib Al Hasan, Harry Brook, Will Jacks, Dawid Malan, Jason Roy and Sherfane Rutherford.
The 1 crore band ($180,919.52 AUD) includes Aussies Moises Henriques and Andrew Tye. Others include Mayank Agarwal, Kedar Jadhav, Manish Pandey, Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Joe Root, Luke Wood, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Martin Guptill, Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Heinrich Klaasen, Tabraiz Shamsi, Kusal Perera, Roston Chase, Rakheem Cornwall, Shai Hope, Akeal Hossein and David Weise.
A maximum of 87 players can be purchased at auction, 30 of which can be overseas players. The IPL auction is scheduled for December 23 in Kochi.
