Australian captain Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the second Test against the West Indies in Adelaide having failed a fitness test as he continues to battle a quad strain.
Cummins revealed he was a 50-50 chance to line up for Australia for day one of the pink-ball Test, which commences on Thursday.
The ailment has persisted, however, with multiple reports confirming on Wednesday that the star paceman will miss the second Test following a failed fitness test with the team's medical staff.
Cult figure fringe bowler Scott Boland will replace Cummins in Andrew McDonald's bowling attack. At the same time, former Australian captain Steve Smith will lead the host nation in Adelaide in place of Cummins.
Smith's return to captaincy follows his one-off stint as skipper for last year's Adelaide Test against England, where Cummins was sidelined due to COVID-19 protocols.
The return for Boland sees the Victorian pull the baggy green back on for the first time since January, where he featured in Australia's Ashes win over England in Hobart.
Cummins will likely be deemed fit to feature for Australia's opening Test match against South Africa later this month, while the Aussies aren't expected to make any further changes to their XI.
