Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has revealed the extent of weight loss he underwent in the weeks after his leg surgery and has indicated that he has no plan to return to cricket soon.
At a friend's 50th birthday party, Maxwell and a pal tumbled and tripped, with the former's leg bearing the entire weight of his friend's body, leading to the surgery of a fractured left fibula.
The 34-year-old has lost 5kgs in the two weeks following surgery, requiring crutches and a moon boot to repair the injuries.
"I want it to be done and over with quickly. I don't want to be on crutches anymore," Maxwell said, via Fox Sports.ย
"I don't want to be in a boot, but it's just the process I'm going through at the moment on a bike, in the pool."
He claimed that as long as he followed all of the instructions for his therapy, medical staff were confident he could make a full recovery.
"I haven't got a return date for you yet until I can start walking properly and do other things, playing golf, doing some basic things around the house," he added.
Despite his "prolonged" recovery and lack of a playing comeback, he expressed hope that he will be able to play again for the Melbourne Stars before the Big Bash is over.
"The leg has been through a bit of trauma," he said.
"I need to make sure that I do everything I can to make sure it's not a recurring injury with my ankle joint and that I can make sure that I'm solid on it for the rest of my career."
The Melbourne Stars will be led by Adam Zampa in the absence of Maxwell. The Stars didn't have a great start to the tournament as they lost in a last-ball thriller against the Sydney Thunder on Tuesday.
