Jordan Thompson has won his way through to the second round of the French Open with a hugely impressive win overย Serbian Laslo Djere.

Thompson defeated the qualifierย in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5, to reach theย second round of a Grand Slam for the first time.

The 22-year-old will now face big serving Croatian Ivo Karlovic in the second round, after the 27th seed defeated Spaniard Alberto Montanes 6-2, 7-6, 7-6.

โ€œHaving Lleyton Hewitt, one of my tennis heroes, on the sidelines was unbelievable,โ€ Thompson said post match.

Fellow Aussie John Millman is currently locked in a tense battle with big serving American John Isner. Millman took the first set in a tiebreak, before losing the second, also in a tiebreak. However, bad light halted play at a set all.

Meanwhile, Sam Stosur's first round match was also halted due to bad light. Stosur took the first setย 6-3, before her opponent Misaki Doi, fought back to lead 3-1 when play was stopped.
