Australian opener, David Warner is at risk of losing his spot in the Test side after a poor performance with the bat, managing just 11 runs total in Nagpur.
After a shocking decision to leave the in-form Travis Head out of the side,ย The Sydney Morning Heraldย has reported that selectors are looking at the South Australian to potentially replace the veteran Warner despite his poor sub-continent history.
Few Australian batsmen have been able to make a big score in Indian conditions but Warner has particularly struggled in recent years, managing just one 50-run innings in his past 14, now averaging a mere 22.16 in nine tests in India.
Former wicket-keeping batsman Brad Haddin has endorsed the potential decision to include Travis Head, saying โthe one thing they could have done is put him up the order to take the game on,โ Haddin said on Fox Cricket.
โBecause if he's set and spin comes on then he's a much different player.โ
Former England captain Michael Vaughan also had his say, tellingย foxsports.com.au the decision to leave Head out of the XI was "ridiculous".
โHow Travis Head's not one of the first picks is beyond me,โ Vaughan said.
โWhat does that say to a player? What does that do for not just him but the rest of the team? What do they think? Does that mean when David Warner comes to England, he doesn't get picked? That precedence has now been set by the selectors.
โIt just think it's ridiculous.โ
The second test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will start February 17 in Delhi.
