Australian white-ball star Glenn Maxwell has shown no signs of a setback in his return to the field, knocking a top-score effort of 61 for Victorian premier side Fitzroy Doncaster on Saturday.
After breaking his leg in November, Maxwell has been kept to the sidelines as he looks to recover from the ailment that ended his hopes of a Sheffield Shield return late last year.
The veteran big-hitter was in the mix to play for Victoria prior to the injury, while his Big Bash League campaign was over before it began.
Wanting to return to the red-ball scene, the injury blow was an untimely one for Maxwell, but his return to the field has him back in contention for a first-class return almost immediately.
Suiting up for Fitzroy Doncaster at Schramms Reserve this weekend, Maxwell scored 61 runs from 92 deliveries to help steer his side to a two-wicket win over Kingston Hawthorn.
Maxwell would hit five fours and two sixes on his way to top-scoring for the day before being caught out, while the all-rounder did not bowl in the opening innings.
The 33-year-old's return to the pitch comes days away from Victoria's Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia, with Maxwell included in the 13-player squad.
He will face a fitness test ahead of the match, and if passed could make his first-class return after last featuring in the competition since 2019.
Maxwell will also have his eye on a trip to India to feature in the white-ball matches for Australia next month, with three ODIs to come after the Border-Gavaskar series.
A trip to India will add to a busy schedule for Maxwell, who is set to feature for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the upcoming Indian Premier League season before heading to the UK to play for T20 blast side the Birmingham Bears.
