Australia's hopes to level the Border-Gavaskar series have been buoyed, with all-rounder Cameron Green set to return to Andrew McDonald's XI for the second half of his side's tour of India.
Green has been sidelined since the Boxing Day Test in late December with a broken finger, an injury that curtailed a strong performance from the West Australian after he collected his maiden five-wicket haul in the baggy green.
Australia will be without captain Pat Cummins for the third Test against India in Indore next week, while fellow paceman Josh Hazlewood has also returned home after his continued battle with an Achilles injury.
The pair of departures have left the tourists lacking for pace options despite the favouritism to bowl spin, with veteran Mitchell Starc also missing the opening two Tests with a hand complaint suffered in Melbourne.
Starc is seen to be in the frame for selection for the third Test as Australia look yo bring India's winning start to the halt, while Green will likely come into the side after recovering from the finger injury.
"It's going really well," Green said.
"I was so, so close last game, but I think probably having an extra week has helped a lot.
"[I'm] 100% ready to go."
Former Australian captain Steve Smith will lead Australia for the Indore Test in Cummins' place, with the absent skipper no certainty to return to India as he remains in Australia to spend time with his seriously ill mother.
Both Green and Starc could come into Australia's XI for the third Test, with two spots needing to be filled after David Warner's elbow injury forced the veteran opener to also return to Australia.
Concussion substitute Matt Renshaw may lose his place to Green, while Starc is seen as the likely replacement for Cummins.
Australia and India will go head-to-head at the Holkar Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, March 1.
India have retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after jumping to a 2-0 series lead.
