Australian Beth Mooney has been awarded her first overseas T20 captaincy role for the Gujarat Giants in the upcoming Women's Premier League.
The batter is coming off a successful ICC Women's T20 World Cup campaign where she helped lead Australia to their third consecutive World Cup victory.
Scoring a match-winning 74 in the final against South Africa, she became the first batter to score two half-centuries in the T20 World Cup finals.
Selected for approximately $362,205 AUD she became the Gujarat Giants marquee signing. This reunited her with former teammate Rachael Haynes, who is the Giants' head coach.
"I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the Adani Gujarat Giants in the historic Women's Premier League's inaugural edition in 2023," Mooney said in a media statement.
"The squad is keen to get the ball rolling soon and put out an entertaining and effective brand of cricket in the debut season of the WPL."
"It will be fantastic to have the likes of Sneh as my deputy and Mithali Raj, Rachael Haynes and Nooshin Al Khadeer as pivotal parts of the team."
One of the best limited-overs batters in the world, Mooney has previously played for teams such as the Perth Scorchers, Brisbane Heat and London Spirit.
In 83 T20I matches, Mooney has scored 2350 runs with a high score of 117. Averaging 40.51 runs per game, she hits at a strike rate of 124.60.
