Football Federation Australia (FFA) are reportedly open to bending the rules surrounding a guest marquee player as Brisbane Roar stay in the hunt for Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan.
The Courier Mail have reported that the Roar haven't given up in getting the 37-year-old's signature, although following an unsuccessful attempt a few months ago, Forlan is now unavailable until January.
Brisbane were in the market for Forlan but couldn't complete the deal, and the striker then signed for Mumbai City in the Indian Super League.
The ISL season ends in mid-December, meaning the playmaker can join up with the Roar in the January transfer window, and Forlan reportedly remains keen to do so.
The current guest rule means players must play the full seaosn to allow for maximum exposure, although given Forlan's pedigree, an exception may need to be made, and it seems as though it's one the FFA are comfortable to make.
The 2010 Golden Ball winner (best player at the 2010 FIFA World Cup) would likely become the third guest player of the season, after the signing of Tim Cahill at Melbourne City and the the likely link-up between Melbourne Victory and Michael Essien.
