Nicolas Colazo has signed for Melbourne City for the upcoming season, rounding out City's 2016-17 A-League roster.

The Argentine joins City as a marquee player alongside Bruno Fornaroli, with Tim Cahill taking up the new guest marquee spot.

Colazo has been a key member of Boca Juniors' squad since making his first-team debut with them back in 2009, making 148 appearances for the Argentine giants.

The 26-year-old won't feature in City's FFA Cup quarter-final clash with Western Sydney on Wednesday night, although head coach John van't Schip is hoping Colazo will be available for their opening league tie against the Wellington Phoenix.

โ€œThat's something that we have to have a bit of a better look at. He's been training the last few months with Boca and has played some internal games,'' van't Schip said.

โ€œHe's in a good physical state we just have to work out if he's match fit.

โ€œWe like him, he's a good player, he played on a high level in Argentina with Boca, who's the biggest club there along with River Plate.

โ€œHe's been a big part of that team. He had some issues and therefore didn't play too much last period.

โ€œHe liked the opportunity to join us in this project and we're happy that we can hopefully let him in, I don't think it'll be a problem.

โ€œHe can play up front, midfield and defence so he's versatile, technically strong and a good left foot.''
