Adelaide United have officially announced the signing of Spanish forward Sergio Guardiola on a season-long loan deal.

Guardiola joins the Reds on loan from La Liga side Granada CF, after making 19 appearances for Granada B in 2016, scoring eight goals.

The 25-year-old has spent his entire career in Spain making appearances for numerous clubs across his native land, most notably with Barcelona B.

Guardiola is excited about his move to the A-League champions, and is looking forward to linking up with fellow countryman and manager Guillermo Amor.

โ€œMy first feelings about moving to Adelaide are very good,โ€ Guardiola said.

โ€œEverything has been comfortable with coming to the Club and all the people have been very welcoming.

โ€œWhen Guillermo (Amor) won the league with Adelaide, there was a lot of coverage about it in Spain.

โ€œThen, after I started talking with the Club, I started to follow the team more and more and looked at the history of the team a little bit.

โ€œYou can see the A-League is a competition that is developing and to have joined the Champions is very exciting.

โ€œI want the people to know that I am here as a 25-year-old who is looking to score lots of goals and to win games with this Club.

โ€œThis is a big step for me and I'm here to work a lot because I want to get the best out of my time with Adelaide United.โ€

Amor believes the signing of Guardiola is a perfect fit for the Reds, and he's excited to bring the forward into the club.

โ€œSergi is the type of player we were wanting to bring to our team and to have done this is very good,โ€ Amor said.

โ€œBefore signing Sergi, we took our time to look at the many different options we had available and we believe he is the perfect fit for us.

โ€œHe is a player with many strong qualities who reads the game very well, but can finish even better.

โ€œWe know this will be Sergi's first time playing outside of Spain, but we are confident in his ability and we know he can score our team goals.

โ€œHe is still young and is still developing with his football, but Sergi will fit in well with our team and our football.โ€
