An apparently seriousย kneeย injury to San Franciscoย running back Reggie Bush and the sight of Mike Davis leaving the field couldย open the door for Jarryd Hayne to return to the 49ersย after he was dumped from the squad on Sunday.

Bush immediately went down in pain after injuring his knee off the first punt of the game. He ran across the field for a gain, before jogging over the sideline before slipping on the concrete.

He was taken from the field and did not return for the rest of the game. There were fears Bush had suffered a tornย ACL - an injury that could potentially be career-ending.

But a game-ending handย injuryย to another running back in Mike Davis - on top of Carlos Hyde's foot fracture whichย has ruledย him out until after the week-10 bye -ย means Jim Tomsula'sย teamย are down a total of three running backs. The only fit running back isย Hayne'sย replacement,ย Kendall Gaskins, which is a majorย concern for a depleted 49ers outfitย a day afterย Hayneย was sensationally dumpedย from their roster.

Hayne'sย fate isย likely to be known on Monday (Tuesday, Sydney time)ย when it is expected to be revealed if another NFL team has picked him up, or if not, whether the 49ers have signed him to their practice squad.
