England caretaker manager Gareth Southgate has named his first squad since taking over from Sam Allardyce after the former England manager resigned following a newspaper sting.
Southgate has recalled promising young Manchester United duo Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford, while also giving Glen Johnson, Ryan Bertrand and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain another chance on the international stage.
A few players have been ruled out through injury, although Southgate's mantra for this squad was to keep it as close to last month's squad as possible.
โWe've tried to keep some continuity from last month because my view would be a lot of things have been going right," Southgate told FATV.
โWe had a few people unavailable through injury, obviously Harry Kane, Jack Butland and we lost a couple over the weekend...Danny Drinkwater, Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne and Luke Shaw's not quite back fully fit yet.
โThat's had a bearing on the squad and a couple of players I've worked with, with Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard, in the Under-21s who we think are exciting players and we wanted to put in this squad.โ
This England squad will now go into camp ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Malta on October 8 and Slovenia on October 11.
