England caretaker manager Gareth Southgate has named his first squad since taking over from Sam Allardyce after the former England manager resigned following a newspaper sting.

Southgate has recalled promising young Manchester United duo Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford, while also giving Glen Johnson, Ryan Bertrand and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain another chance on the international stage.

A few players have been ruled out through injury, although Southgate's mantra for this squad was to keep it as close to last month's squad as possible.

โ€œWe've tried to keep some continuity from last month because my view would be a lot of things have been going right," Southgate told FATV.

โ€œWe had a few people unavailable through injury, obviously Harry Kane, Jack Butland and we lost a couple over the weekend...Danny Drinkwater, Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne and Luke Shaw's not quite back fully fit yet.

โ€œThat's had a bearing on the squad and a couple of players I've worked with, with Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard, in the Under-21s who we think are exciting players and we wanted to put in this squad.โ€

This England squad will now go into camp ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Malta on October 8 and Slovenia on October 11.
