Australian international all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has agreed to a new deal that will take him through to the end of the 2026/27 BBL competition.
Stonis has agreed to remain at the Melbourne Stars, signing a three-year contract, and may become the team's next captain after Glenn Maxwell stood down from the role.
The second-highest run-scorer in BBL history, he has played 98 matches for the Stars - two away from becoming the first player in the club's history to reach the 100-game milestone. He is also ranked sixth on the all-time leading wicket-taker list.
Away from the BBL, Stoinis made his international T20 debut for Australia in 2015 and was a squad member in the country's maiden T20 World Cup win in 2021.
He is also playing in the SA20 competition for Durban's Super Giants, Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL and San Francisco Unicorns in the inaugural Major League Cricket tournament in the United States last year.
"Marcus is obviously one of the most experienced and well performed T20 players in Australia over the last decade and for him to commit for another three seasons is a great demonstration of the faith he has in where we are headed," said Melbourne Stars General Manager Blair Crouch via the club's website.
"He is one of the most in-demand T20 players in the world and as we saw on New Year's Eve again this year, when he was at his destructive best, he is one of very few players who can win a match off his own bat.
"As well as what Marcus brings on the field, he, along with the other senior players will play a huge role over the next few years in developing the next generation at the Stars."
