Cameron Green has revealed his finger surgery will leave him a "touch and go" proposition for the first Test against India, but squashed rumours he would be ruled out of the IPL as a result.

It had been previously reported that Green was far more likely for the first Test than Mitchell Starc, who also suffered a finger injury during the Boxing Day Test which Australia won against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Starc is resting to allow tendons in his bowling hand to heal, while Green had surgery to fix his broken finger.

Despite that, Green is now no certainty to be available for the first Test of the four-Test Border-Gavaskar series in India, due to start on February 9.

Speaking on SEN Radio, Green said his priority was the Test series rather than the Indian Premier League, where he was signed for a monstrous $3.15 million.

โ€œObviously my first priority is the Test Series that's beforehand,โ€ Green said.

โ€œI think me and Starcy (Starc) are maybe touch and go for that first one but obviously we'll give ourselves the best chance.โ€

It's understood Starc is far less likely even now to play the first Test in India, with the towering quick bringing a point of difference to the Australian side when it comes to raw pace and reverse swing that Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland don't.

Green, on the other hand, is a pace-bowling option at number six who will prove crucial in India allowing Australia to play two spinners effectively.

Reports suggesting Green could be in far more bother and potentially miss the start of the IPL have been shut down however.

โ€œNo, that's not correctโ€, Green told SEN Sportsday WA.

โ€œI've heard about this for a quite a while now I think. I don't know where it's come from.

โ€œI've heard that I'm 100 per cent available for both skill sets in the IPL at the start, so yeah, I'm not too sure where that's kind of come from."
