A controversial DRS decision almost soured a stunning Sydney Sixers win on Friday night, with middle-order batsman Jordan Silk given out caught behind despite appearing not to have hit the ball.

Silk would play a pivotal role in the Sixers' six-wicket win over the Melbourne Stars at the SCG, hitting 15 from 10 balls - including a six in the final over - to help steer his side to victory.

Englishman James Vince was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten 91 from 59 balls, while veteran all-rounder Dan Christian would hit the winning runs with one ball to spare after coming to the crease in the final over.

Stars paceman Luke Wood was handed the task of bowling the final six balls, which didn't come without controversy.

With three balls left and the Sixers needing two runs for victory, a short Wood delivery would be met with a sound as it passed Silk's bat before landing in the gloves of keeper Joe Clarke.

Stars skipper Adam Zampa opted for a review of the not-out call, with real-time 'Snicko' showing a noise that would help the third umpire's decision to overturn the call and end Silk's innings.

Silk would appear perplexed by the decision, even making the sign for a review with his arms before walking off the MCG pitch.

Vision of the dismissal would show a gap between Silk's bat and the ball where a spike on 'Snicko' would appear, with Silk tellingย Fox Sportsย post-match that while he heard a noise, he didn't believe he had hit the ball.

โ€œI definitely heard a noise as it went past my bat and I saw up there that there was a spike on snicko as it was going past (my bat). But then the front-on camera showed I was about that far away from it, so I'm not sure how they've come up with that," Silk said.

โ€œThat's what I saw on the screen, so that what was I was going off (when I tried to review).

โ€œIt's following me at the moment, controversy. I don' know, it was a bizarre moment. I went from thinking I was out on the snicko and then I saw a gap on the other camera.

โ€œIt could've blown up, no doubt.โ€

The delivery also appeared to have sailed over Silk's head, with a wide ball perhaps the correct outcome for the delivery.

Nevertheless, Christian would come to the crease in Silk's place and hit a boundary to bring up the Sydney franchise's fifth win of BBL|12 to return to the top of the table.

For the Stars, the loss sees them remain at the bottom of the league with just two wins from their eight matches, with their finals chances almost over.

They'll travel to Hobart for their next match to face the Hurricanes, while the Sixers will do battle with state rivals the Thunder on Sunday night at Sydney Showground Stadium.
