The Hobart Hurricanes have confirmed the re-signing of star bowler Patrick Dooley.

After making his debut last year for the Brisbane Heat as a COVID replacement player where he bowled economically without luck, Dooley shifted south to Hobart for this BBL, and has played 10 of the 14 games for the men in purple.

His mystery action has made him a cult hero, but his performances have done the talking for him.

In his ten games, he has bowled 37 overs, taking 19 wickets for 243. That gives Dooley, who is a former Australian under-16s player - an average of just a tick over 12 with the ball, and an economy of just 6.6.

His incredible form with the ball hasn't been enough to spur the Hurricanes into the finals, but in a rare piece of good news since the New Year for Hobart, Dooley has been re-signed until at least the end of the 2024-25 summer, giving him another two summers at the club.

The breakout star is the highest Hurricanes wicket-taker for the season and said he enjoyed the experience upon his re-signing.

โ€œIt was such a great experience for me this season,โ€ Dooley said in a club statement.

โ€œObviously things didn't go exactly as we wanted on field, and for me personally with my injuries as well, that was a bit frustrating, but it was such a great group of players and coaches to come into, and for someone like me who isn't in the state system year-round, I learnt so much from being in the Hurricanes environment.

โ€œIt was pleasantly surprising to prove to myself more than anyone that my skills can make an impact consistently at this level, so I'm looking forward to getting my body right, working hard in the off-season, and I can't wait to come back next year.โ€

Dooley becomes the eighth player on the Hurricanes roster for 2023-24 alongside Tim David, Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Billy Stanlake and Matthew Wade.
