Left-handed batsman Matt Renshaw is not scrounging for a spot in Australia's first XI test side for the upcoming tour of India, despite an injury to all-rounder Cameron Green.
Green, 26, is unlikely to play after he broke his finger during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa, with the Western Australian ruled out of bowling commitments for the Nagpur test on February 9.
While it remains possible that he features as a specialist batsman, selectors may prefer to stock up on spin bowlers in the form of Ashton Agar or Mitch Swepson, or give Renshaw the nod at six.
Renshaw was the replacement at the time of Green's injury but only batted briefly, scoring five not out in the new years Test at the SCG while Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja hit centuries in a weather-impacted match.
After a BBL win for Brisbane on Sunday night, Renshaw admitted "obviously you think about that (potentially playing the first Test) a little bit."
"Greeny's a class player of spin anyway so I don't know if that'll affect it too much, whether it's me or him as a batting option," he toldย AAP.ย
"We saw how well he went in Sri Lanka, he's a great player.
