Reigning NBL champions Melbourne United aren't resting on their laurels for season 2021/22 and have made what could arguably be the biggest signing heading into the new season, snapping up what will sure to be the biggest signing of the season in Australian basketball star and former Cleveland Cavaliers and Milwaukee Bucks guard, Matthew Dellavedova.
The signing comes as a massive addition not only just for Melbourne's championship aspirations or the NBL, but basketball in Australia as a whole.
'Delly' has been one of the most well known and loved Australian basketballers in recent times and will be sure to get bottoms on seats.
Known for his hustle and wearing his heart on his sleeve and playing a real "Australian way" spirit brand of basketball, Dellavedova is sure to bring a toughness and heart that will be key for Melbourne United's chances at back to back championships.
Dellavedova played 9 seasons in the NBA with Cleveland and Milwaukee, averaging 5.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists over the course of his career.
He adds to Melbourne United's signing of former Australia Boomer, Brad Newly, which will add further experience to an already star studded lineup.
In other signings around the NBL, the New Zealand Breakers have signed Peyton Siva from Alba Berlin out of the EuroLeague and Hugo Besson on a three-year import deal out of France.
The Adelaide 36ers have re-signed star big man Isaac Humphries to a one-year deal and are also in advanced talks to sign sharpshooter, Dusty Hannahs from NBA G-League club Santa Cruz.
The Illawarra Hawks have re-signed star guard Tyler Harvey to a three-year deal after an impressive 2020/21 season whileย new club, the Tasmania Jack Jumpers, have made a few moves of their pwn to kick off their time in the NBL, signing Clint Steindl and Jarred Bairstow from the Perth Wildcats, Jack McVeigh from the Adelaide 36ers and Sam McDaniel from Melbourne United.
