In a session interrupted by red flags due to an accident for HaasF1 driver Romain Grosjean, Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo was the quickest man on day one of the Mexican Grand Prix weekend.
Lewis Hamilton was second fastest .131 slower than the Red Bull driver with the second Red Bull of max Verstappen in third place overall, .163 behind the Australian.
However, it wasn't an easy session for the young Dutchman who was forced to sit the end of the second session out due to engine problems. Thankfully it is not the engine he plans on using for the reminder of the weekend, so no penalty will be imposed when the Milton Keynes based squad change it tonight.
Fourth fastest was the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel with his teammate Kimi Raikkonen close behind in P6.
Valtteri Bottas, Fernando Alonso, Sergio Perez Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Ocon rounded out the top ten.
The two Toro Rosso's had a rough start to the weekend with Pierre Gasly in the pits while mechanics donned face masks as they worked on the issue. Teammate for this weekend Brendon Hartley was also in the wars after he reported that his engine was making odd sounds as well.
