Sebastian Vettel came out on top to secure the 50th pole position of his Formula One career today when he beat Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen to pole position.
The young Red Bull driver seemed untouchable but on Vettel's final run he pulled out that little bit more and took the place for Ferrari, their first front row start in Mexico since 1987.

Title hopeful Lewis Hamilton will start from third on the grid, the British ace not too concerned about his position, knowing he only has to finish 5th or higher to claim the crown here this weekend.

Valtteri Bottas will make it an all Mercedes second row, however, there is an investigation underway between Bottas and Verstappen, who has been accused of impeding the Finn on his first timed lap in Q3.

Kimi Raikkonen and Esteban Ocon will start from row three with Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg on row and Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez rounding out the top ten.

Toro Rosso had a torrid afternoon with Pierre Gasly not even making it out on track due to an engine change and Brendon Hartley losing power in Q2.

Both McLarens have engine penalties and will start from the rear of the grid.
