Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has called for Margaret Court Arena to be renamed following the Australia's stance on same sex marriage.

Court, an Australian tennis icon, wrote an open letter to QANTAS, which was published in The West Australian on Thursday, slamming the airline for its promotion of same sex marriage.

โ€œI am disappointed that Qantas has become an active promoter for same sex marriage,โ€ Court wrote.

โ€œI believe in marriage as a union between a man and a woman as stated in the Bible.

โ€œYour statement leaves me no option but to use other airlines were possible for my extensive travelling.โ€

Court has been heavily criticised for her stance to boycott the airline, with Navratilova suggesting her name be stripped from the Melbourne Park precinct.

โ€œMaybe it's time to change of the Margaret Court Arena then,โ€ Navratilova wrote on Twitter.

"And I guess Margaret will be taking the boat on her next trip?

"Thank you Qantas for your support. And Margaret - you have gone too far. Shame on you..."

Navratilova even suggested a new name for Court One at the Australian Open.

"Evonne Goolagong Cawley Arena is a mouthful, but it gets my vote:). For all the right reasons," Navratilova added.

Margaret Court Arena was called Show Court One when it was opened in 1988, until 2003, when the court was renamed in the multiple grand slam winner's honour.
