Australian Bernard Tomic's poor form has continued, as he was obliterated by No.6 seed, Dominic Thiem, in the opening round of the French Open overnight.

Thiem dispatched the Aussie 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 in justย over an hour.

Tomic said his Austrian opponent, who is one of the favourites for the title, was simply far too good.

โ€œI was playing top two, three player on clay, and he's been playing well, and really no chance today," Tomic said post-match.

โ€œHe killed me from the start, from the 2-all game, and that's why he's been playing so well.

โ€œHe's a huge favorite to do well in this Roland Garros this year.

โ€œAt the clay level I'm not quite there near him at this moment but hopefully one day in a few years I can improve on this surface and there's been positive signs this year.โ€

Tomic put up some resistance in the first set, however, struggled to maintain the aggression thereafter.

The 24-year-old lost the second set in just 16 minutes and the third in just 22.

Thiem will now face either Simone Bolelli or Nicolas Mahut in the second round.
