Australian golfer Min-Woo Lee has won his first PGA tour event in a tight finish at the Houston Open.

Lee narrowly won by just one stroke over world number one Scottie Scheffler and Gary Woodland.

The 26-year-old had previously won three times on the DP World Tour and twice on the Australasian Tour, but this was his first victory on the PGA calendar.

Entering the final day, Lee had a commanding four-shot lead which slowly faded away as Scheffler recorded four birdies in a row.

The tension grew on the par-five 16th with Lee mistiming a drive that found the water, forcing him to take a penalty drop to record a bogey.

Heading into the 18th hole, Lee held a one-shot lead and needed just a par to record his first tour victory. After a nervous tee shot left him in the rough, Lee fired his approach shot right over the green - leaving himself a tricky distance for par.

From more than 40 feet from the hole, the West Australian opted for the putter and executed a brilliant long-range effort to leave his ball just a foot from the cup.

He then sunk the putt in front of the Texan crowd to record his first PGA victory and more than $1.7 million in prize money.

Speaking after the victory, Lee said he was relieved to secure the win.

“I'm very exhausted - it was a lot of mental grind and I'm so proud of the way I handled myself,” he said.

“Houston will be in my heart for a long time.”

The victory puts Lee in a promising position heading to Masters week in Augusta.

The 26-year-old is firming as Australia's best chance at the first major tournament of the year, with Lee previously finishing a tie for 22nd in 2024.
