Aussies take honours on day one

Australia has the upper hand after day one of the First Test against the West Indies in Roseau, after dismissing the home side for just 148.

Mitchell Johnson and Josh Hazlewood were the pick of the bowlers, each taking three wickets.

Australia then finished on 3/85 at stumps, with Smith (17) and Voges (20) the not out batsmen.

The hosts lost the early wicket of Brathwaite for 10, before Hope and Darren Bravo went about rebuilding the innings.

Nathan Lyon then broke the 40-run partnership, dismissing the dangerous Bravo for 19.

That then sparked a collapse for the West Indies, as they lost their next five wickets for 28 runs, to find themselves at 6-91.

After a short resistance, Australia eventually dismissed the West Indies for in the 54th over for 148, in a dominant display, which saw them lose their last nine wickets for just 85 runs.

Starc took two wickets and Lyon one, to complement the impressive performances of Johnson and Hazlewood.

The performance of Australia's bowlers justified the decision to leave out second spinner Fawad Ahmed, who had been touted as a possible debutant.

Australian then started their innings rather shakily, with David Warner dismissed by Taylor for just eight. Marsh then followed soon after for 19, and the Aussies were 2-38. Clarke and Smith then combined to steady the ship, before Clarke was caught behind for 18 to make it 3-61.

Steve Smith and debutant Adam Voges then led Australia to stumps at 3/85, with scores of 17 and 20 respectively.

Despite the loss of early wickets, Australia looks to be well in control, just 63 runs behind with seven wickets in hand.
