Australian bowling coach Craig McDermott has indicated that four pacemen might be on the cards for the first Test.
Despite the warm weather in the UK of late, the Australians were very surprised to see a green wicket underneath the covers as rain clouds closed in at Cardiff.
The venue historically favours batsmen early in the Test, however the curator has been able to produce a green deck, despite the warm conditions. The forecast for Cardiff includes light rain over the next few days, as well as on the morning of the Test, which will ensure there is moisture in the air for the bowlers.
"If they (ground staff) don't take much more grass off, hopefully it'll be pretty interesting for particularly the quicks and the fast medium bowlers,” McDermott said.
“We'll see what happens tomorrow with their preparation, and the more damp weather we get, the more they'll leave the covers on.
“The boys this morning were swinging the ball a lot.
“If we do get a lot of swing we can use the crease to maximise that, and that's pretty important for our attack and certainly Sidds (Siddle) is one who uses the crease well.
“So it's making sure you don't get too greedy, and using the crease to get your lines correct and make the batsmen play.
“The other guys do as well, but he uses it as good as anyone.
"We've got to bowl our good lines and lengths which we did in Australia in the last series, and we stuck to our game plan."
