Australian captain Pat Cummins has won the toss for the first Test of the summer against the West Indies and elected to bat first at Optus Stadium in Perth.

The teams have also been confirmed, with Pat Cummins announcing the same 11 players who he revealed would play during a press conference yesterday.

The Australian team is more or less as expected, with Scott Boland and Marcus Harris being the two players to miss out from the 13-man squad that was originally named for the contest.

That means Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood are the three who have been selected in the pace attack, to be backed up by all-rounder Cameron Green, while Nathan Lyon will also play.

The batting order is as expected, with David Warner and Usman Khawaja to continue opening the batting, followed by Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith, with Travis Head and Alex Carey joining Green in the middle order.

Jason Holder and Roston Chase have been confirmed to play for the West Indies after missing their last start in the format, while Tagenarine Chanderpaul will make his debut for the tourists.

Chanderpaul will open the batting alongside captain Brathwaite, while Nkrumah Bonner, Jermaine Blackwood, Kyle Mayers and Joshua Da Silva join Holder in the top seven.

Chase is joined by the three quicks, Alzarri Joseph, Kemart Roach and Jayden Seales.

Cummins suggested there could be a bit in the wicket, but wanted to back his batsmen.

West Indian captain Kraigg Brathwaite said he also would have hat a bat first.

Play at Optus Stadium in Perth is scheduled to commence at 1:20pm (AEDT) - 10:20am (local time).
