James McDonald, an Australian champion jockey, is reportedly in hospital with an unknown illness ahead of the Final Group 1 Race of the season at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Set to compete in less than three days at Warwick Farm, he is set to ride C'est Magique, the second favourite to win the Tattersall's Tiara. McDonald could be out for the remainder of the season in Australia.

His career record as a jockey has seen him ride 113 winners at a strike rate of 24 per cent.

According to The Herald, McDonald entered a Sydney hospital with an unknown stomach problem with doctors to run further tests on Thursday. At this stage, the doctors have ruled out appendicitis.

This comes after his condition progressively worsened during Wednesday afternoon before he drove himself to the Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick and remained there overnight.
