Australian captain and wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy has been ruled out for the remainder of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) season and could potentially miss next month's ODI series against India.

The Sydney Sixers confirmed in a statement on Saturday evening that Healy won't play again in this season's tournament after she sustained an injury to her left knee.

This also leaves her in significant doubt for Australia's three-match ODI series against India, which begins four days after the WBBL Final. They will then travel to New Zealand for three more ODI matches.

Tahlia McGrath looms as the obvious choice to replace her as captain if she is unavailable for selection, while teenager Frankie Nicklin has been chosen as her local replacement player for the Sixers.

Meanwhile, the news has gotten worse for the team in magenta, with overseas signing Sophie Ecclestone ruled out for the remainder of the campaign due to international commitments.

โ€œShe will continue with her rehabilitation over the coming fortnight under the care of CNSW and CA medical staff,โ€ the Sixers said in a statement.
