Victoria Azarenka has claimed her second Indian Wells title with an impressive 6-4, 6-4ย victory over world No.1 Serena Williams.
Azarenka broke Williams to love in the first game of the match, before surviving five break points in the sixth and eighth games of the set to claim the first in 41 minutes.
The former world No.1 then raced to a 4-1 lead in the second, before Williams managed to get one of the breaks back, but it was too little too late, as Azarenka eventually completed a straight sets victory.
"Well, I [had] to go for it. She's not a type of player that if you are going to play save, she's going to give [you the point] or she's going to miss," Azarenka said.
"You really have to go out there and take away, because there is nothing coming easy.
"My mentality was just to stay calm, do what I think is right, play aggressive, play my game, and figure it out from there. I just really try to stay in the moment. Whatever I can do, you know, whatever the score is, the next-best point what I can play."
