A baffling moment in the Big Bash League's challenger almost cost the Brisbane Heat the wicket of Josh Philippe.

Batting first on a tricky wicket, the Sydney Sixers had advanced to 1 for 43 at the end of the opening six overs and seemed to be in full control.

That was until Josh Philippe attempted a reverse sweep. The ball appeared to make contact with his pad in real time before being caught behind by Jimmy Peirson.

Ruled not out by on-field umpire Sam Nogajski, the Heat elected to review the decision.

Third umpire Paul Wilson then ruled the decision to be not out LBW based on the ball brushing the glove of the Sixers' opening batsman.

Philippe for a brief moment believed he had survived, only for the Heat to remind the on-field umpire Nogajski, who was joined in the middle by Donovan Koch, that that Peirson had indeed caught the ball.

The mistake was quickly - albeit embarrassingly - fixed as Nogajski was taken off-screen for the review to continue, with snicko then confirming the ball had brushed the glove on the way through to the keeper.

Despite that, some thought the noise on snicko was the bat brushing the ground rather than ball, however, third umpire Wilson was convinced and Philippe made his departure from the crease for a run-a-ball 16.

The Sixers' innings quickly went downhill from that point, winding up 6 for 119, with the Heat winning by four wickets with less than two overs to spare. They now advance to Saturday's final against the Perth Scorchers.
