Cameron Bancroft has confirmed his move from the Perth Scorchers to the Sydney Thunder, signing a three-year deal that will see him wearing green until the end of BBL|16.
Bancroft had been a significant part of the Scorchers' batting lineup, averaging 33.93 runs and solidifying his spot as the third-highest run scorer for Perth. He also had a stellar BBL|12 where he led the Scorchers to become champions over the Brisbane Heat in a season where he averaged 51 runs at a strike rate of 140.
It also comes about as Cricket Australia's new contracting rules for next season, where a club can have at least six 'marquee' players in each squad that can be paid more than $200,000. This increased the payment pools by $1.1 million to $3 million. Thus making the Scorchers struggle to find enough money for Bancroft.
Head of Sydney Thunder Andrew Gilchrist spoke withย Sydney Thunder Media on Tuesday, sharing his excitement of the signing of Bancroft.
โWe're obviously delighted to have secured Cam and have him as a part of our group for the next three years. His talent and ability to contribute on field is evident, but he's also a fantastic person and we know the value he'll add to our group off field," he said.
โHis experience at the top of the order will be immense for us and his form, particularly in the second half of last season, made him one of the competition's biggest targets this off-season.
"We couldn't be happier to have him join the Thunder Nation.โ
With Bancroft joining the Thunder, will he and David Warner win the Thunder's second title in seven years?
