Following last season's elimination at the hands of the Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory are out for revenge when the two sides kick off the Hyundai A-League season on Friday night.

A stoppage-time header to Thomas Broich completed the comeback for the Roar in last season's elimination final, as Brisbaneย overturned a 1-0 deficit to record a 2-1 win and marched into the semi finals.

"I suppose as the game gets closer it becomes a bit more fresh again," Broxham said.

"It took a little while to get over at the end of last year. We had to move on quickly because we still had games (in the AFC Champions League)ย but when everything was done and dusted, it still hurt a lot.

"I think you'll go back there and it'll jog your memory a bit. Not that you need any more motivation, but it's there."

The match against Brisbane will actually be Melbourne's third league game in a row against the Roar, following a 0-0 draw in Round 27 the week before their elimination final loss.

That won't be a factor for Kevin Muscat's men though, as they've made plenty of changes in the off-season along with the Roar, meaning starting XI's will be much different this time around.

The inclusions have all been positive according to Broxham, as he believes his manager and former teammate is building quite a talented squad.

"The squad's slowly come together really well. It's just getting stronger and stronger," Broxham said.
