Football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted at when his career will end after setting a new record for most international victories in men's football.
Ronaldo, who is set to turn 40 in February, has confirmed that he will announce his retirement only when he is no longer motivated to play.
The update comes after he surpassed the record of former Real Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos for most international victories at 132.
"I just want to enjoy [myself]," Ronaldo told reporters after Portugal's 5-1 win against Poland last week to seal a quarterfinal spot in the UEFA Nations League.
"Plan for retirement? if it has to happen, in one or two years ... I don't know. I'm turning 40 soon.
"I really want to enjoy, as long as I feel motivated I keep going. The day I don't feel motivated, I will retire."
One of the few players to have made over 1,200 professional career appearances, the Portuguese superstar is regarded as one of football's best players and has spent time with some of the most prestigious clubs in the world such as Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Scoring twice in the match against Poland, the Al Nassr forward and former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus star also revealed that he has no intention of going into coaching when he eventually decides to retire.
"I don't see myself managing a team; that's not in my plans," he added.
"My future lies in other areas outside of football, although time will tell what happens."
