The Sydney Thunder has confirmed the arrival of David Warner for the entirety of the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season.

After retiring from international cricket, Warner has agreed to a two-year contract with the Thunder, which will likely see him open the batting with Cameron Bancroft.

This contract will see him available for all matches throughout the tournament - he has never played more than six BBL games in a season.

One of Australia's best limited-over cricketers over the past two decades, the slogger achieved the first-ever century in the BBL competition back in the maiden season.

While he will be one of the most watched players on the cricket field, Warner will also feature in the commentary box across the summer onย Fox Cricket.

"This upcoming season is hopefully going to be a better one than last year," Warner told the Sydney Thunder in an interview.

"The group of guys that we had last season really brought a lot of energy, we had a lot of fun on the field, but off the field, we gelled very well together โ€ฆ and this this year, I think we can go a couple of steps better and play some play some good cricket.

"We've got great talent in the team, a good bunch of young kids as well, so hopefully that can (push us) further than last season."
