Donald Trump a Damien Martyn fan?

We discovered back in 2015 that new President of the United States, Donald Trump, only followed 47 people on Twitter. One of them was former Australian cricketer Damien Martyn! Here is a list of our weird and wacky theories as to why.

1. Martyn knows all about success, having been part of incredibly successful Australian cricket teams in his time and Trump feels he would be a perfect fit as his new Vice President if elected President, with the batsman never taking a backward step during his career.

2. Trump has clearly gotten word of Martyn's glorious cut shots he was synonymous for and wants to ask the former test star for tips to add some fluency to his own cricket game.

3. "To defend is a sign of weakness." That is how ESPNCricinfo describes Martyn's attitude to batting during his career. This is no doubt an attitude that Trump would admire and he mulls over Martyn's twitter feed daily in order to gain inspiration for his Presidential campaign.

4. In 2006, Australia won the Champions Trophy and Martyn lightly pushed then Indian cricket board president Sharad Pawar out of the way so the Aussies could celebrate with the trophy. Trump doesn't let anyone get in his way on the road to success and was a huge fans Martyn's from that point on.

5. Trump can see a striking resemblance between Martyn and himself and wants to bring Martyn to 'take your son to work day'.

6. Martyn was dropped early on in his Test career before fighting his way back into the side years later. Trump is no stranger to comebacks, having put his foot in his mouth on more than one occasion and he wants to ask Martyn simply how he did it.

7. Donald Trump is Damien Martyn's biological father and he wants to reconnect with his long lost son. "Damien, I am your father." "Noooooooooooooo!"

8. Trump wants to revolutionise international cricket World Series style! He wants to use the expertise of Martyn to help his venture get off the ground.

However, Trump now only follows 41 people on Twitter and Martyn is one of the people who have been cut, no doubt following Trump's much talked about phone call with Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnball, which reportedly left the new President seething.
