The England and Wales Cricket Board is investigating the relationship between coach Brendon McCullum and a betting company that may breach the ECB's anti-corruption code after.
McCullum joined 22Bet India, a Cyprus-based company, in November last year and has since advertised sponsored content on his own social media feeds and in advertisements, with McCallum encouraging people to bet on the Indian Premier League.
The ECB released a statement revealing they are "exploring the matter" with McCullum, whose agent has held talks with the board to assist their investigation.
"We are currently exploring the matter, and [are] in discussions with Brendon around his relationship with the Cypriot-based betting company, 22Bet," a statement read, viaย ESPN.
"We have rules in place around gambling, and will always seek to ensure these are followed."
The ECB's anti-corruption code prohibits "participants" from "directly or indirectly enticing, persuading, encouraging or facilitating any other party to enter into a bet in relation to the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of any match or competition".
McCullum was appointed as England's Test coach in June last year and has led the side in 12 Tests. England are scheduled for an upcoming series against Ireland in June before the beginning of the 2023 Ashes Series later that month.
McCullum has recorded 10 wins as England's Test coach. He was previously head coach of IPL franchise the Kolkata Knight Riders.
