England have confirmed their XI ahead of the third Ashes Test at Headingley on Thursday.
With Harry Brook moving up to No. 3 for their crucial third Test against Australia at Headingley, England is remaining faithful to their all-round aggressive strategy.
Jimmy Anderson and Josh Tongue have both been replaced, but the Ashes hosts have added a third fast bowler to their bowling assault by calling back Mark Wood and Chris Woakes and bringing back Moeen Ali.
Despite only limited test experience, Harry Brook has cemented himself in England lineup with an average of 67. Brook has scored 30+ runs in three of his four innings so far.
Captain Ben Stokes is confident he can deliver in his new position.
"It was pretty simple for us to be honest," Stokes said of the decision to promote the 24-year-old.
"When you've got a player like Brooky you feel like he could slot into any position. If something was to happen last summer (before he was in the team) from 1-6, Brooky would have come in in any position.
"We feel that Brooky is the type of player who will just take the responsibility and just crack on with it.
"We want to keep Joe (Root) at four, because he's a remarkable player and Jonny moving up to five was just to get him into the game earlier."
Meanwhile seamers Chris Woakes and Mark Wood have made their way into the team to suit up for the first time this series.ย Wood has battled through injuries but has now been cleared to play, bringing his well-renowned pace into a strong English outfit.
Speaking with Zero Wicket on Tuesday, England bowling coach David Saker expressed how vital Mark Wood is to the English attack.
"Were hoping to have him available for this game (third test)," Saker said.
"He bowled well today if he pulls up from that and can move his arm well. We're obviously hoping he can have him back he just bowls so fast. Bringing in his fastball will sort of add to the drama of the game.
"He's a seriously fast bowler. Of course, we will wait and see but I think he's a good chance to play this game."
Despite Missing out on selection, Josh Tongue impressed in the second test with his ability to become a threat to the Australian top order. Tounge collected five wickets, all of which struck the top four.
Saker was impressed at his ability to deliver when his name was Called.
"He was a bit of a standout because he's a bit different than other seamers because he's a bit taller and his balls a bit faster and he's quite awkward to pick up," Saker told ZeroWicket
"His resilience was really good. The youngster who came into the group hasn't played a lot of Test cricket. Second Test match at Lords and he gave us some really good wickets for us in the first innings and was dangerous throughout the game.
"It was a bit of a find for us because he's sort of been plucked from nowhere to be fair. So he's just added to a list of twice levels which is always nice to have."
James Anderson has also made way, allowing room for the return of Spinner Moeen Ali. Ali was selected for the opener but was forced to withdraw from Lord's to attend to an alarming Blister.
Anderson has missed selection after only taking three wickets in the first two tests. Despite not succeeding statistically, Saker was impressed at Anderson's ability to adapt to the conditions.
"Jimmy is probably not at his best but has done well, very well. I know he'd be a little bit frustrated with that but I still think he's done really well," said the bowling coach
"Jimmy and the group have adapted to the wickets really well."
