Seven Australian women have featured in a French Open final since the beginning of the tournament as an amateur competition in the late 1800s.
Among those champions however is one of the greatest players of all-time in Margaret Court, who contested six finals split across both the amateur (French Championship) and professional (French Open) era, winning five of them.
All but one of those victories took all three sets, with the straight sets win coming against Helga Niessen of Western Germany in 1970.
The 1960s and early 1970s were a dominant period for Australian tennis, with Australian's winning eight of twelve tournaments between 1962 and 1973.
Lesley Turner and Evonne Goolagong were the nation's other winners during that period.
Only three Australian women have featured in a final since Court's last win in 1973 on the clay though, with Wendy Turnbull falling to legend Chris Evert in 1979, Samantha Stosur going down to Italian Francesca Schiavone in 2010 and Ashleigh Barty finally breaking through for a win in 2019 by getting over the top of Marketa Vondrousova.
