The NBA Most Valuable Player Award (MVP) is the most prestigious regular-season honour in basketball, given annually to the best performing player of the 82-game season since 1955–56.

From the 2022–23 season onwards, the winners have received the Michael Jordan Trophy, named after the five-time MVP and arguable greatest player of all time Michael Jordan. Prior to this, the award was known as the Maurice Podoloff Trophy, named in honour of the NBA's first commissioner.

The selection process for the MVP has evolved over the years. Initially, players voted for the MVP until the 1979–80 season. Since then, a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters from the United States and Canada determines the winner. Each panel member casts votes for first to fifth place, with varying points assigned to each position. From 2010, fans have also been able to cast one vote online.

This list chronicles every MVP winner, starting from the most recent, Nikola Jokić of the Denver Nuggets, who claimed the 2024 title, back to the inaugural winner, Bob Pettit, in 1956. This list showcases the eras dominance and most important names in nearly seven decades of NBA history.
