Ex-Australia opening batter Michael Klinger has been confirmed as the new coach of the Gujarat Giants, replacing fellow Aussie Rachael Haynes.
Having been given the coach role, Klinger will work alongside bowling coach Nooshin Al Khadeer and mentor Mithali Raj for the Giants in the Women's Premier League (WPL).
After retiring from the game, Klinger has previously worked in the BBL and WBBL competitions. Recently he coached the Melbourne Renegades for two seasons from 2019-20 and was an assistant coach for Sydney Thunder's WBBL team.
"Working with Michael will help bring out the best in the Gujarat Giants players," Giants mentor Mihali Raj said about the appointment in a statement.
"His expertise with the bat is also well-known, and will surely benefit some of the younger members of our team.
"We look forward to having Klinger in the dressing room. We are sure of attaining success with him as head coach."
As the season gets set to start on February 23, the Giants will be looking to avenge their poor performance from last season where they lost six of their eight games and finished at the bottom of the table.
Their current squad includes four players from Australia: Phoebe Litchfield, Ashleigh Gardner, Beth Mooney, and Lauren Cheatle.
Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa) and Kathryn Bryce (Scotland) round out the international spot on the roster.
