The FFA have blocked Melbourne Victory's attempt to sign former Italian international, Alessandro Diamanti as a guest player for the 2016-17 season.
The Daily Telegraph has reported that Victory has attempted to sign Diamanti under the FFA's new guest player rule, which allowed Socceroos star Tim Cahill to join Melbourne City.
The new rule allows clubs to sign players as a guest marquee for an entire season outside of the salary cap. It also involves the FFA assisting clubs in attracting high profile players, with the governing body setting aside $1 million to help pay for big name players.
However, the FFA has rejected Victory's bid to sign the Italian, with the 34-year-old winger understood to not meet the requirements for a guest marquee.
Diamanti, who is currently on loan to Serie A side Atalanta from Chinese giants Guangzhou Evergrande, made 17 appearance for Gli Azzuri between 2010 and 2013.
He has represented the likes of Fiorentina, Brescia, Bolonga, West Ham, Watford and Atalanta during his club career.
