Sri Lankan cricket legend Kumar Sangakkara is expected to announce his retirement from all forms of international cricket after the end of the first Test against India in August.
Sangakkara has reportedly told the Sri Lankan Cricket Board that he will only play the first two Tests against Pakistan and the first test against India, as he juggles the end of his international career and his commitments with Surrey Cricket Club in England.
Sangakkara had originally planned to retire from international cricket at the end of the World Cup earlier this year, but was convinced to play on for two more series by several key members of Sri Lankan cricket, including Captain Angelo Matthews and several former selectors.
It is understood that current selectors attempted to convince Sangakkara to play all six Test matches against Pakistan and India, however, his mind was made up.
Sangakkara will retire as the most successful player in Sri Lankan cricket history.
He has scored 12,203 Test runs at an average of 58.66, including 38 hundreds and 51 50s in a 130 match career. He has 11 Test double-centuries, second only to Sir Donlad Bradman with 12.
He has scored 14,234 One Day International runs in 404 matches, at an average of 41.98, with 25 centuries and 93 50s.
