Former Australian left-arm quick Nathan Bracken has set his sights on a new career path, running as a Liberal candidate in the upcoming election.
In his playing days, Bracken shattered records with the ball in One-Day Internationals. He was the second-fastest Australian bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets.
A feat that was achieved in 60 matches and has only been beaten by another left-arm fast bowler- Mitchell Starc.
Following this, he would play a further 56 ODI matches and 19 T20I matches. Known more for his talent in ODIs, Bracken ended his ODI career with an average of 24.36 and an economy rate of 4.41.
Some of his 116 ODIs included being a part of the 2003 and 2007 winning ODI World Cup team.
He eventually retired in 2011 due to a major knee injury. This was followed by suing Cricket Australia for how his injuries were handled.
The case was eventually settled but he alleged Cricket Australia engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct and was negligent and in breach of contract.
Still involved in cricket as a player and commentator, he has his sights set on a political career. In the upcoming election, Bracken will run as a Liberal candidate for The Entrance on the Central Coast.
The former national team player has run for office twice before but has been unsuccessful. The first was in 2013 and then in 2017 when he ran as an independent.
