Sam Stosur has cruised through to the third round of the French Open, with a straight sets win over Belgian Kirsten Flipkens.

The 6-2, 7-6 win took the Australian a mere one hour and 30 minutes and sees Stosur advance to the Round of 32 in Paris for the ninth consecutive year.

“I played pretty well,” Stosur said post-match.

“Got myself in a bit of a hole in the second set but, to get through that one in straights, I'm very pleased.

“She's a very tricky opponent. She can do a bit of slice, lob, running to the net. I certainly went into that match knowing I probably wasn't going to get a whole lot of rhythm at times.

“I had to be aggressive but not play stupid and certainly I think I did that for the most part.”

Stosur will now face American Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the third round.
