Australian star all-rounder Cameron Green is no sure thing of returning for the second Test against India, with his finger taking longer to heal than expected.
Australia were hoping to welcome both Green and Mitchell Starc back into the side for the Delhi Test after the duo missed the first Test of the series in Nagpur, where Australia were beaten by an innings inside three days.
Starc is expected to return, however, Green, who was originally racing the clock for the first Test and expected to have a shorter recovery than Starc, is reportedly still yet to be comfortable in the nets.
It was revealed in the lead-up to the first Test that the injury he sustained in the final Test of the home summer against South Africa still hasn't healed to let him face pace bowling in the nets.
The second Test, to be played in Delhi, gets underway on Friday and was, according to News Corp,ย still tentatively going through fielding drills with a soft ball on Monday and hasn't faced fast bowling yet.
He is back bowling in the nets, but will need to be able to bat at number six to justify his selection - an important one for the Aussies given the added flexibility it would allow them to play with in the side, potentially adding a spin bowler, with Ashton Agar or Matt Khunneman the options.
A spokesperson for Cricket Australia said on Monday that Green's recovery is progressing, but that doesn't mean he is certain to be fit for the Test, which gets underway at 3pm (AEDT).
