Jarryd Hayne appears to have lost his punt return job at the San Francisco 49ers, while also getting a lukewarm review of his standing as a running back.
The NFL club's special teams coach Thomas McGaughey said he feels “very comfortable” with Reggie Bush, the veteran who replaced Hayne in last week's loss to the Seattle Seahawks, as the team's punt returner.
Meanwhile, head coach Jim Tomsula gave an underwhelming take on Hayne as a running back option, while praising rivals Mike Davis and Bush.
Hayne was left out of the 46-man squad for the Seahawks game after committing three punt return fumbles in the first six games of the regular season.
Bush, a 10-year NFL veteran, is also considered a more reliable option at Hayne's other position, running back.
